HAMDEN, Conn. — The University of Maine Black Bears scored three second-half goals to beat the Quinnipiac University Bobcats 4-1 Thursday in field hockey action and improve their record to 6-1.
Samantha Wagg’s goal 12 minutes into the second half from a Libby Riedl assist gave the Bears the lead and they followed with a goal by Jessica Skillings with four minutes left and Danielle Aviani with two minutes remaining to secure the win. Aviani assisted on Skillings’ goal and Libby notched her second assist on Aviani’s goal.
Marissa Shaw put the Bears on the scoreboard just four minutes into the game courtesy of an Ella Mosky assist. Meghan McCullough equalized for the Bobcats from a Michelle Federico assist at the 31:29 mark.
Maine outshot Quinnipiac 18-7 with Emma Cochran making three saves for the Bears before Emily Corbett took over to play the final 10 minutes. Corbett didn’t face shot.
Megan Conaboy finished with 11 saves for the Bobcats (1-6).
Men’s Soccer
Thomas 2, St. Joseph’s 1
At Standish, William Nilson’s unassisted goal with 4:16 left in the game gave the Terriers of Waterville the winning edge.
Josh Emard scored an unassisted goal for Thomas at the 17:08 mark of the first half, but Brett Mattos equalized for the Monks when he converted an Austin Bell assist at the second half’[s 52:48 mark.
Joakim Sternas made six saves for Thomas (2-2-0) while Scott Benner also made six for St. Joe’s (2-3-1).
