ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockland woman who tried to run for the City Council failed to submit enough signatures to make the ballot.

Main Street resident Judith Lawson turned in her papers to the city clerk’s office shortly before the deadline Monday. But when the city staff went through the nomination papers, Lawson was 12 short of the minimum of 100 signatures of registered Rockland residents needed to get on the ballot.

Three candidates remain, however, for the single three-year seat up for election.

Incumbent Frank Isganitis, who is serving as mayor this year, will be challenged by community activist Deborah Atwell and Lake View Drive resident William Jillson.

The election is Nov. 3, and absentee ballots will be available earlier.
