BANGOR, Maine — Bangor is one of four finalists to host the Can-Am Police and Fire Games in 2020, Hollywood Casino spokesman Dan Cashman announced Friday.
Bangor joins Lubbock, Texas; Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, as finalists. The 2016 games are being held in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and the 2018 event in Lake of the Ozarks.
The event is a multisport competition, similar to the Olympic Games, featuring competitions that resemble the duties of police officers and firefighters.
A search committee plans to gather in Bangor on Saturday to review potential sites for the competition and outline potential plans, should Bangor be chosen to host the event.
Members of the Bangor police and fire departments and Bangor City Councilor Josh Plourde will join the search committee.
