ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockland man remains at the Knox County Jail after police said he assaulted a couple walking on Main Street Saturday night for no reason.
Mark P. Gagne, 33, was charged Saturday night with two counts of assault and one count of violating a condition of release.
When he responded to a report of a fight on Main Street, Rockland police Sgt. Don Finnegan found a group of people and Gagne, who Finnegan recognized as being on bail on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to an affidavit filed by the sergeant.
A couple reported that they had been walking and the man said hello to Gagne as they were passing. Gagne, for no reason, punched the man on the side of the head, according to police. The woman then asked Gagne why he did that and he pushed her three times in the chest with his hands, the affidavit stated.
Gagne initially refused to submit to arrest but eventually complied when the officer warned that he would use a Taser. The officer stated that Gagne appeared to be intoxicated and was rambling in a pretend language.
