Cardinals’ Molina will miss remainder of regular season
PITTSBURGH — St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina will miss the rest of the regular season because of a partially torn thumb ligament, and his availability for the postseason has yet to be determined.
Molina was examined by doctors Monday and told he was not ready to play, though they were encouraged that his strength and flexibility have improved. Molina suffered the injury on Sept. 20 when he tagged out the Chicago Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo, who was attempting to score on a sacrifice fly.
The seven-time Gold Glove winner will be re-examined Sunday before the Cardinals play their final regular-season game against the Braves at Atlanta.
Sharapova’s return from injury cut short by arm trouble

Despite playing on for another couple of games she quit while leading 7-6(1) 6-7(4) 2-1.
The former world number one had not played a match since losing to Serena Williams in the Wimbledon semi-finals in July.
Armstrong settles long dispute over pay bonus
DALLAS — Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong has settled a lawsuit and apologized to an insurance company that paid him over $10 million in bonuses before he admitted he used performance-enhancing drugs, a lawyer for the firm said on Monday.
Dallas-based SCA Promotions for years has been trying to recoup the money it paid Armstrong for his victories in the Tour de France, arguing the accomplishments were tainted and built on lies.
The terms of the settlement are confidential but the agreement “was mutually acceptable to both parties,” SCA attorney Jeff Tillotson said.
