SOUTH THOMASTON, Maine — A 44-year-old Richmond man is accused of driving drunk on Sunday, striking a house and driving away.

Ronald Richards was arrested Sunday and charged with operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison said Monday.

The crash occurred shortly before 9 Sunday morning on Spruce Head Road in South Thomaston. The sheriff said the vehicle Richards was driving failed to stop at a stop sign on Island Road, crossed Spruce Head Road and went through a yard, knocking over a bush and then hitting the porch of the house.

Pieces of the vehicle were left at the scene, the sheriff said.

Knox County dispatch sent out an alert and a short time later, Waldoboro police stopped Richards in Waldoboro. Deputy Arthur Smith, Deputy John Hansen and the sheriff handled the incident.

There was no immediate estimate on damage to the home.
