There are 12 people running for three open seats on the Bangor City Council this year — the most in at least four decades.
It can be hard to differentiate between candidates in such a large pool, which is why the Bangor Daily News asked each candidate a series of questions about some of the biggest issues facing the city, on camera so you can watch and compare their answers.
We asked the candidates about how they would address homelessness, public drug use and syringe litter, rising property taxes, and working together with other councilors. Click on the stories below to hear directly from the candidates about their positions on these issues.
Here’s what the candidates said
Engagement in the upcoming election is high this year as frustration mounts around the city council’s performance. Some candidates began campaigning months before the petition period opened, and several groups of community members have hosted candidate forums.
These stories were informed by our readers, after you shared your concerns for the city and questions for the candidates.
The BDN has also profiled each of the 12 candidates. You can read more about them here.
Early voting by absentee ballot begins Monday Election Day is Nov. 3, and polls at the Cross Insurance Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
