PORTLAND, Maine — A diver went underwater and didn’t resurface Wednesday evening, and Portland police are trying to find out why.
Coast Guard officials said a body was found near the Portland Fish Pier around 6 p.m. Firefighters were first at the scene after a call for a distressed diver came in about an hour before.
The Coast Guard said rescue divers found the body after multiple agencies were called in to help.
Officials aren’t releasing the person’s name. Police say they might have more information available Thursday.
