BRUNSWICK, Maine — Fire destroyed a two-story home in Brunswick on Thursday evening, and police and fire officials are looking for the cause.

Firefighters were called to the house at 36 Garrison St. around 5:20 p.m. Thursday and arrived to find “heavy fire showing from the rear of the building,” according to Brunswick fire Chief Ken Brillant.

The blaze soon spread to three sides of the house. The residents weren’t home at the time. Brillant called the house a “total loss.”

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Brunswick police and fire investigators are searching for the origin and cause of the fire, but the state fire marshal’s office isn’t yet involved, Brillant said.

Fire crews from Topsham, Freeport, Bath, West Bath and Lisbon assisted on scene, according to Brillant. The fire was under control after about an hour, but not before destroying much of the structure.
