ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine scored four unanswered goals in the second half to knock off No. 6 ranked Albany 6-2 Friday in field hockey action.
The win moves Maine to 11-2 and 2-0 in America East while Albany falls to 9-2, 2-1.
Jessica Skillings scored a goal and assisted on Marissa Shaw’s goal 52 seconds later to give Maine a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes.
Anna Bottino and Liza Morgan responded with goals for Albany for a 2-2 halftime tie, but the Bears responded in the second with goals by Samantha Wagg at 57:09 and Libby Riedl four minutes later. Cassidy Svetek and Katie Bingle each added a second-half goal. Riedl also had an assist.
Albany outshot Maine 13-10 with a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Emma Cochran and Emily Corbett split time in goal for Maine, each finishing with two saves. Maxi Primus made three saves for Albany.
Women’s Ice Hockey
Quinnipiac 3, Maine 1
At Alfond Arena in Orono, Quinnipiac’s Taylar Cianfarano scored at the 14:59 mark of the third period to snap a 1-1 tie en route to the win.
Melissa Samoskevich assisted on the game-winning goal for Quinnipiac (1-0-1). Nicole Kosta added an empty net goal with 39 seconds left in the game.
Cydney Roesler scored off a Nicole Connery assist to put Quinnipiac on the board at 9:30 in the second period, but Catherine Tufts equalized for Maine about three minutes later with Lydia Murray notching the assist.
Quinnipiac outshot Maine 42-17 with Meghann Treacy making 39 saves for the Black Bears (1-1-0) and Sydney Rossman making 16 for Quinnipiac.
