PORTLAND, Maine — A 58-year-old Portland man was charged in federal court on Tuesday after allegedly robbing the Bangor Savings Bank branch on Forest Avenue late Monday morning.
Francis J. Ready was charged with two felonies, bank robbery and using a firearm during a crime of violence.
Ready used a Harrington & Richardson .32-caliber revolver during the robbery, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court by Special Agent Patrick M. Clancy of the FBI.
Portland police said Monday that Ready entered the bank brandishing the gun and demanded cash from tellers. After being given an undisclosed amount of money, he allegedly fled on foot. He was taken into custody by patrol officers after traveling a short distance.
No one was injured during the robbery, according to police.
Ready faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
