With frost already touching parts of Maine and the potential for flurries in northern Maine this weekend, it probably shouldn’t be surprising that another sign of winter is upon us: Sunday River is opening Monday, Oct. 19.
It’ll only be possible if the next few days are cold, but so far the forecast is holding.
“Opening plans will depend on temps and snow conditions so make sure to check [www.sundayriver.com] for updates over the next few days,” wrote the ski resort, located in Newry.
After Monday, it will open again on weekends. “We’re planning to open for the day on Monday then moving to our traditional early-season schedule of running lifts on weekends only until mid-November,” it said.
The lift will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, with the last run from the base at 3 p.m.
The resort said it expects the T2 trail on upper Locke Mountain to be ready and accessible from the Locke Mountain Triple lift. Tickets will be $29.
