BRIDGTON, Maine — Bridgton police have arrested 23-year-old Aaron Tanguay after police say he led deputies on a high-speed chase through Naples in a stolen vehicle early Friday morning.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted the vehicle driving 100 MPH down the middle Route 302 early Friday morning and attempted to catch up. They say the vehicle nearly struck a tractor trailer truck on the Naples causeway.
Another deputy was able to deploy pike mats in the area of Bridgton Drive. The vehicle struck the spike mats and was later found crashed into the sign at R.G. Johnson Sporting Goods in Bridgton.
Tanguay was seen running from the vehicle, which was later determined to have been stolen out of Portland, officials say.
At 8:30 a.m., police say they got a call of a burglary at the Bridgton Chamber of Commerce. Tanguay fled on foot after being confronted by employees. He was later detained a short distance away.
Police were able to determine that Tanguay was the suspect in the chase earlier in the morning.
Tanguay has been charged with burglary, theft and criminal trespass. More charges are expected for the car theft and chase.
