Husson University built a 41-point halftime lead on Saturday afternoon on the way to a 54-8 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference victory over Gallaudet at Hotchkiss Field in Washington.
John Smith ran for 135 yards and three touchdowns and Joe Seccareccia threw for three more scores as the Eagles (5-1 overall, 4-0 ECFC) registered their fifth consecutive win.
Coach Gabby Price’s team outgained the Bison (0-6, 0-4 ECFC) 392-117 in a dominating performance.
Smith set the tone as Husson rushed for 272 yards while utilizing 10 different ballcarriers. He turned in touchdown runs of 9, 6 and 19 yards, all in the first half.
Stephen Day scored on a 29-yard run and Josh Lovins returned an interception 27 yards for a score. Seccareccia (7-for-11 passing), threw scoring passes of 26 and 3 yards to Robenson Saintard (4 receptions, 39 yds.) and one of 28 yards to Jon Saban.
Jean Gabriel and Bryant Wade spearheaded the defense with six tackles each.
Gallaudet was led by QB Ramon Johnson (8-for-28, 59 yds.) and Austin Hundley (9 carries, 43 yds., 1 TD). Carnelius Smith and Richard Harty each piled up 15 tackles.
The Eagles already led 13-0 when they scored three times during a span of 3 minutes, 35 seconds in the second quarter to build a 34-point cushion.
Husson returns to the Winkin Complex next Saturday for an ECFC matchup against SUNY Maritime.
Endicott 37, MMA 14
At Beverly, Massachusetts, the Gulls erupted for 17 points during the final seven minutes of the first half, building an advantage they would not relinquish in a New England Football Conference matchup.
Sam Ouellette completed 15 of 31 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown to spearhead the defense for Endicott (2-4), which outgained the Mariners only 369-350 but came up with five turnovers, including four interceptions.
Chris Lipscomb led the Gulls’ receivers with four catches for 77 yards and also had a 43-yard run.
Fullback James Ferrar sparked MMA with 25 times for 144 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Michael Fahey ran for 72 yards and went 4-for-14 passing good for 67 yards.
Endicott jumped in front on a 45-yard interception return by Lawrence Gonzalez, but the Mariners equalized when Fahey capped a 62-yard drive with a 3-yard TD run late in the first quarter.
However, the Gulls went to work over the last 6:53 of the first half.
First, the hosts covered 68 yards in eight went plays, capped by a 9-yard scoring pass from Ouellette to Jacob Simons. Endicott got the ball back and moved 53 yards on eight plays, culminating in a 1-yard TD dive by Spencer Walsh.
Endicott got the ball back one more time after a Mariners punt and got into position for Kyle Regan to kick the first of his three field goals, a 22-yarder that made it 24-7 at intermission.
MMA couldn’t get closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Jeddy Doyon registered 11 tackles and Alex Gamester posted 10 to spearhead the Mariners defense.
Connor McLaughlin made 14 tackles and had an interception for Endicott.
