BANGOR, Maine — With heavy rain expected to soak the state Wednesday and into Thursday, officials in Bangor and Portland are warning residents to avoid parking in areas that have flooding potential.
High tide is at 12:36 p.m. Thursday in Bangor, and flooding in Kenduskeag Plaza is possible between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday. In addition to heavy rain, strong winds could create a storm surge up the Penobscot River.
Commuters may want to avoid parking in Kenduskeag Plaza lots near the stream.
Areas in Portland that have flooding potential include the Bayside neighborhood, East Bayside on Marginal Way, Park Avenue near Interstate 295 and parts of Commercial Street.
Commuters are advised to avoid leaving vehicles in areas prone to flooding and to avoid walking or driving through ponded water.
