AUBURN, Maine — The Auburn Police Department shared the following tips and reminders to help ensure that Halloween 2015 is safe and fun for everyone.
Trick‐or‐treaters are reminded to do the following:
— Go with a grown‐up.
— Visit people you know and houses that are well‐lit.
— Make sure your costume fits. It’s easy to trip on costumes that are too long or shoes that are too big.
— Wear bright colors or reflective clothing, and carry a flashlight.
— Don’t eat treats until you show them to a parent or trusted adult.
— Never enter a stranger’s home or car.
— Do not take treats from someone you don’t know
— Stay on sidewalks and crosswalks where available, and cross only at intersections.
— Cross the road when it is clear, and keep an eye out for cars.
Auburn police are reminding motorists to be aware that young children and adults will be out on Halloween night.
Halloween also is a particularly deadly night because of the high number of drunken drivers on the roads. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, from 2009 to 2013, 43 percent of all motor vehicle deaths occurring on Halloween night involved a drunken driver.
