HAMPDEN, Maine — Regional School Unit 22 Assistant Superintendent Emil Genest has been named Assistant Superintendent of the Year by the Maine School Superintendents Association for his expertise in finance and school construction and for his work on behalf of public education and the district he serves.

The award was presented to Genest in October during the Maine School Superintendents Association’s annual meeting.

Superintendent Rick Lyons nominated Genest for the honor.

“Assistant Superintendent Genest has been a strong ambassador for public education for over three decades. His leadership is one of the reasons RSU 22 has been on numerous occasions designated one of Maine’s ‘high performing and highly efficient’ school districts,” Lyons said.

Genest — who holds a bachelor’s in political science, a master’s in speech communications and a certificate of advanced studies in educational administration, all of them from the University of Maine — has been RSU 22’s assistant superintendent for business for 22 years. Before that, served as its business manager. For the past two years, he also has served as an administrator for the Veazie School Department.

Genest was selected for the award through a vote of a committee of his peers.

“It is a truly rewarding experience to be recognized by one’s fellow colleagues because they understand the job expectations and implications on a day‐to‐day basis,” he said. “I also want to emphasize this award is a reflection of the dedicated faculty, staff and Board of Directors of the RSU 22 family.”

RSU 22 serves the communities of Hampden, Newburgh, Winterport and Frankfort.
