Talor Hamilton of Ellsworth and Maeve McGowan of Morse High School in Bath have been named state winners of the 2015 Wendy’s High School Heisman award.

Hamilton and McGowan are among 100 state winners from around the country in the running to be one of five senior boys and five senior girls named national finalists, which will be announced Nov. 23.

National finalists then will be considered for the national high school Heisman award to be presented on Dec. 11 in New York City.

The Wendy’s High School Heisman honors the highest-achieving high school seniors for their academic and athletic accomplishments and leadership in their communities.

Hamilton is a star swimmer at Ellsworth High School. He was named performer of the meet at the 2015 Class B state championships, where he set a state record while winning the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.2 seconds and also won the 100 butterfly and was part of a championship-winning 200 medley relay team.

McGowan is a cross-country and track and field runner at Morse.

McGowan and Hamilton were selected from Maine’s group of 17 state finalists, a list that also included Sarah Blomerth and Chase Malloy of Madison, Ashleigh Collins of Bangor Christian, Blake Woods of Hodgdon, Sydney Petrie of Mountain Valley of Rumford, Donald Hustus of Brooks and Mount View High School of Thorndike, Aspen Cote of Madawaska, Jacob Cressey of Woolwich and Morse High School, Emily Lobley of Marshfield and Washington Academy of East Machias, Joshua Perrin of Crystal and Southern Aroostook Community High School, Jessica Willerson of Falmouth and Catherine McAuley High School of Portland, Jacob Trask of Winslow, Mackenzie Edwards of Gardiner, Rachel Bunker of Ellsworth, and Logan Huckins of Machiasport and Calais Middle-High School.
