SOUTH THOMASTON, Maine — The Board of Selectmen has hired a new town administrator.
The board voted unanimously at its Tuesday meeting to hire Terri Baines. She currently works in the town office as deputy administrator, serving as assistant to the town administrator, town clerk, treasurer, tax collector, registrar of voters, general assistance administrator and freedom of information officer. Her hiring will become effective once someone is hired to fill her position. Selectmen said that process could take a few weeks.
Former Administrator John Spear will continue to serve in the interim post until Baines takes the office. He has filled in since last month when Ann Matlack left at the end of her six-month probationary period.
Baines is a native of South Thomaston, having grown up on Spruce Head Island. She is a graduate of Rockland District High School and has taken several accounting and computer science courses at the University of Maine’s former Thomaston center.
Since beginning work for the town, Baines has completed numerous training workshops and seminars regarding a variety of municipal government activities and functions.
