BANGOR, Maine — A Milford man pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of conspiring to distribute and possess bath salts and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
A sentencing date has not been set for Edwin Hamel, 59, but he faces up to 20 years in prison on the drug charge and 10 years on the weapons charge.
In addition to jail time, Hamel also faces a $1,000,000 fine on the drug charge and $250,000 and three years of supervised release on the weapons charge.
Court documents indicate Hamel conspired with others to distribute the drugs in Penobscot County between January 2012 and March 2014.
Hamel obtained the drugs from China by ordering them on the Internet, and sold them for more than $100 per gram.
Hamel had been prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony marijuana trafficking conviction.
