ROCKLAND, Maine — Councilors on Monday night unanimously elected Louise MacLellan-Ruf as the city’s mayor for the next 12 months.
“I believe the city will prosper. This will be a wonderful year,” MacLellan-Ruf said.
Rockland’s mayor moderates meetings, nominates people to municipal boards and oversees ceremonial functions.
MacLellan-Ruf was elected to the council in 2013. She is entering the third year of her first three-year term.
She earned a master’s degree in social work and worked as a clinician in Rhode Island and Connecticut for more than 30 years. She now provides training to organizations on running meetings.
Before being elected to the City Council, MacLellan-Ruf served on the city’s harbor management commission and the harbor trail committee.
William Jillson was sworn into office after being elected two weeks ago.
