MATTAWAMKEAG, Maine — A rollover crash on Route 157 just before noon Sunday sent three people to the hospital and temporarily closed the roadway, and the lead investigator is looking for witnesses.
Duncan Markie, 28, of Mattawamkeag was driving a 2006 Subaru Legacy on Route 157 around 11:30 a.m. when he reportedly encountered another vehicle that had crossed the centerline.
The “driver swerved to avoid an eastbound vehicle that had drifted into the westbound lane,” Maine State Police Trooper Thomas Fiske said Sunday. The “driver lost control and the vehicle rolled over several times into the ditch, striking several trees before coming to rest. The vehicle that allegedly crossed the center line is described only as a red minivan.”
Markie, who was not wearing seat belt, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken by ambulance to Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln.
His two passengers also needed medical attention.
Mattawamkeag resident Grady Markie, 23, who was wearing a seat belt, also suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to Penobscot Valley Hospital. Hannah Somers, 27, of Bar Harbor suffered serious injuries and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. She was wearing a seat belt, Fiske said.
“We ask that any witnesses to the crash or anyone with information regarding the crash to contact [me] at the Troop E Barracks, 207-973-3700,” Maine State Police Trooper Thomas Fiske said Sunday in an email.
