SANFORD, Maine — A local man wanted by police on a probation violation warrant reportedly was arrested Monday in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Police had been searching for Christopher Gonyer, 40, since Nov. 4, when he fled the probation office in Biddeford, Detective Sgt. Matthew Jones of the Sanford Police Department said in a news release.
Gonyer was on probation for three counts of aggravated assault and assault on an officer stemming from a 2006 incident in which he stabbed a woman and a Sanford police officer, Jones said.
Gonyer’s probation has been revoked, he said.
During the course of their investigation, Sanford detectives reportedly learned that Gonyer was working a flooring job in Cambridge. They contacted Cambridge police shortly after 1 p.m., and Gonyer was arrested without incident two hours later.
At the time of his arrest, Gonyer reportedly was in possession of heroin and now faces drug possession charges in Massachusetts.
“All indications were that Mr. Gonyer had fled the state to avoid detection and had no intention of turning himself in,” Jones said.
“The Sanford PD extends their sincere thanks to the Cambridge Police Department for their quick work in helping us bring this fugitive to justice,” he added.
