BUFFALO, New York — Jake Rioux nailed a 3-pointer with 1 minute, 26 seconds left in the game to give the University of Maine-Fort Kent a four-point lead and the Bengals held off the Villa Maria Vikings to record a 71-69 men’s basketball victory Wednesday night.

Rioux and Qaadir Ali each finished with 17 points to lead UMFK (6-7) and Ali also grabbed seven rebounds. Joe McCloskey contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds and Marquis Glenn added 11 points.

UMFK led at halftime 37-35.

Craig Page paced the Vikings with 18 points and Andre Diggs added 13. Justin Stokes chipped in with 12 points and Darius Huggins had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Colby 82, UMPI 68

At Waterville, Colby senior forward Sam Willson recorded 17 points and eight rebounds to power the Mules by UMaine-Presque Isle for their fourth straight victory.

Chris Hudnut added 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists for Colby (4-1). Ryan Jann chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Patrick Stewart added 11 points, three assists and two blocked shots.

Chase Vicaire had 15 of his 17 points in the first half for the Owls (3-3). He also had five rebounds. Brandon McGill contributed 13 points, five rebounds and three assists while Nick Lenhard had 10 points and a game-high six assists.

Women’s Basketball

UNE 82, WIT 37

At Biddeford, Alicia Brown scored 13 of her game-high 19 points before halftime to help the University of New England to a 42-23 advantage, and the Nor’easters breezed in the second half en route to the win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference mutual opener at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor’easters (4-1, 1-0 CCC) have won their last 16 meetings with the Leopards (2-3, 0-1) and have been victorious in 44 consecutive CCC regular-season home contests. UNE is a perfect 28-0 in regular-season conference games at the Harold Alfond Forum since the facility opened in 2012.

Brown was 8 of 16 from the floor and shared game-high honors with seven rebounds. Olivia Shaw contributed 12 points on a 6-for-11 performance from the field while matching Brown with seven caroms. Sadie DiPierro chipped in 12 points.

Carly Rogers was the lone WIT player in double figures, scoring 10 points to go with three steals.
