HARPSWELL, Maine — Police from three towns searched near the Harpswell-Brunswick town line Wednesday night for a man who reportedly assaulted a 41-year-old woman outside her home.

Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Cumberland County deputies went to the home on Route 24, also known as Harpswell Islands Road, after the woman reported the attack, Sgt. Marc Marion of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

The man fled on foot, Marion said

With assistance from Brunswick police and then a police dog from Freeport, officers searched the area for the man but were unsuccessful.

Another adult who was at the home told police he didn’t see the attack, Marion said.

Detectives have identified several suspects, but Marion declined to offer more information, adding only that there is no threat to public safety.

The woman was treated at the scene by Cundy’s Harbor Rescue for injuries Marion would not describe.

He said the assailant potentially faces charges including aggravated assault.
