NASHUA, New Hampshire — The University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals took control in overtime to record an 82-74 men’s basketball victory over the Daniel Webster College Eagles Monday night.
Joe McCloskey gave UMFK its first lead and the lead for good in overtime on a little roller in the paint at the 4:19 mark and added separate free throws just under a minute apart to get the lead to four.
A pair at the line from Daniel Webster’s Rondell Best made it a 70-68 game with 2:24 to go but UMFK’s Marquis Glenn followed with a huge 3-pointer with 62 seconds on the clock to push the lead to five and Daniel Webster pulled no closer.
McCloskey pumped in a game-high 32 points on 13 of 18 shooting and added 10 rebounds to lead UMFK (10-7). Roosevelt Smith notched a double-double of 14 points and 11 boards to go with five assists and three steals. Glenn and Qaadir Ali each added 13 points.
Best paced the Eagles (4-3) with 27 points and 11 rebounds while Ryan Gauthier added 14 points.
Women’s Basketball
UMA 77, Unity 15
At Augusta, Morgan Card scored 26 points to help the University of Maine-Augusta cruise by Unity.
Carmen Bragg added 14 points for UMA (11-4), Caitlin LaFountain put in 12 and Jamie Plummer netted 10.
Jeana Coppa and Katie Dole each scored four points for Unity (0-7).
Men’s Basketball
UMA 103, Unity 82
At Augusta, the University of Maine-Augusta rolled to a 51-24 lead at halftime and then held off the Rams in the second half to record the win.
Keith Chesley and Brandon Rogers each turned in double-doubles to lead UMA (6-7) with Chesley recording 27 points and 12 rebounds and Rogers contributing 24 points and 24 rebounds. Each player also had three assists and Rogers blocked six shots.
Dallas Murphy chipped in with 17 points for UMA and Noah Thompson netted 13. UMA outrebounded Unity 58-30.
Sean Tocci paced Unity (2-5) with 26 points, Hunter Engel added 25 and Eddie Kopacz had 20. Kopacz also had nine rebounds and Engel had eight.
