BANGOR, Maine — City police arrested a local man and woman early Thursday morning in connection with a series of recent residential break-ins.
Charged with five counts each of Class B burglary are Nathan Paulette, 28, and Chelsea Davis, 26, of Bangor, Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton said in a news release. The felony burglary charges carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Both suspects remained at Penobscot County Jail Thursday evening, a jail official confirmed.
Paulette is being held without bail. Bail for Davis was set at $10,000 cash. The two are expected to make initial court appearances on Friday at the Penobscot Judicial Center.
The arrests took place after police were called to a home on the city’s east side about 4 a.m. Thursday morning. The homeowners called for assistance after a dog alerted them to the presence of intruders, Cotton said. Police quickly located the suspects.
Paulette and Davis also are charged in connection with four other similar crimes in Bangor, Cotton said.
The arrests are the result of an investigation by the Bangor Police Department’s patrol and criminal investigation divisions, which have been working over the last few months to solve a rash of nighttime home burglaries, Cotton said.
“Many of these burglaries occurred while the residents were home and without their knowledge until they awoke to find that their homes had been entered,” he said.
Cotton said that there have been 21 nighttime home burglaries since August. Residents are reminded to check all windows, including basement windows and make sure they are secured.
Investigators continue to follow leads and interview witnesses, he said.
