PORTLAND, Maine — L.L. Bean’s board of directors has approved increasing the company’s year-end charitable giving to $2.1 million to more than 100 organizations.
The company said it approved annual gifts to 80 different organizations and small grants to dozens of others in the areas of conservation and recreation, health and human services, education and culture and the arts, including the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront.
The company’s board approved giving $1.9 million last year and has approved about $30 million in year-end charitable giving over the past decade, the company said Tuesday.
The gifts range from $5,000 to $225,000 to various organizations, with $550,000 going to United Way groups across the state, the company said.
Conservation and recreation gift recipients include the Maine Island Trail Association, Trout Unlimited and the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.
Health and human services gift recipients include the American Red Cross and Freeport Community Services. Education grants will go to organizations including the Mitchell Institute and Jobs for Maine’s Graduates.
Art and culture gifts will go to Bangor’s folk festival, Maine State Music Theatre and the Portland Museum of Art.
