PORTLAND, Maine — A Connecticut man who used the nicknames “Murder,” “Black” and “M1” was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court to 13 years in prison for his role in a crack cocaine distribution ring, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

Russell Gordon, 32, of Ansonia, Connecticut, also was sentenced to five years of supervised released and was ordered to forfeit more than $10,700 in drug money, a press release issued Friday said.

Gordon pleaded guilty in May to one count each of conspiring to distribute crack cocaine and possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, according to information posted on the court’s case filing system.

Between December 2013 and January 2015, Gordon conspired with others to sell crack cocaine in Portland, according to court documents. Gordon would arrange for the acquisition of drugs out of state and their transport to Maine. The drugs were given to retail distributors who would sell the drugs in the Portland area, and then return the cash proceeds to Gordon.

Gordon was arrested Jan. 9 in Portland, according to court records. At the time of his arrest, officers found him next to a bag containing 89 grams of crack cocaine and more than $10,000 in cash.

Four people in addition to Russell Gordon were indicted by a federal grand jury earlier this year. All have pleaded guilty to charges in connection with conspiracy. All but one have been sentenced.

Marco Gordon, 34, of Detroit, Michigan, was sentenced last month to 11 years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release. He is incarcerated at the Berlin Federal Correctional Institute in Berlin, New Hampshire, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons’ inmate locator website. He and Russell Gordon are cousins.

Robert Joiner Jr., 30, of Inkster, Michigan, was sentenced in October to three years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. He is incarcerated at Morgantown Federal Correctional Institute in Morgantown, West Virginia, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons’ inmate locator website.
