PORTLAND, Maine — A Falmouth woman who was struck Thursday near the police station has died, according to Portland police.
Lee Whittier, 82, suffered serious injuries about 5:20 p.m. as she tried to cross Middle Street without using a marked crosswalk, a press release issued by police said.
The woman was struck by a 2005 Honda CRV driven by Tori Stewart, 36, of Yarmouth.
Whittier was taken to Maine Medical Center where she later died, the release said.
Middle Street, between Franklin Street and Pearl Street, was closed to traffic for about two hours. The accident remains under investigation.
