FREEPORT, Maine — A Norway woman struck by a vehicle while participating in a rally of the Freeport flag ladies Tuesday morning was listed in fair condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland late Tuesday afternoon.

Rhoda “Bunny” O’Leary was crossing School Street in a crosswalk near the gathering just before 9 a.m. when she was struck by a black GMC Yukon that was turning left from Main Street onto School. The woman hit her head on the pavement when she fell.

The incident occurred as about 150 people gathered to stand with the three Freeport women during their weekly show of what they call “American spirit.”

Freeport police closed Main Street between School and Bow streets while rescue workers loaded O’Leary into an ambulance.

Officers interviewed the female driver as others hurried to assist O’Leary. The driver’s name was not immediately available.

O’Leary and her husband, John O’Leary, are heavily involved with Wreaths Across America, a Maine-based organization that places wreaths on graves at Arlington National Cemetery every year. John O’Leary also is listed as a ride captain for the Patriot Guard Riders organization.
