AUBURN – The Saint Dominic Academy Saints knocked off the Skowhegan/Lawrence Bandits by a score of 10-0 at the Norway Savings Bank Arena. It’s the third win in a row for St. Dom’s after dropping their first two games of the season.

Austin Roy contributed five points on the night to push the Saints to victory.

Roy’s final point came on his third goal with 1:03 remaining in the game on a 5-on-3 power play when found an opening and stuffed the puck past Hunter Raye.

The Saints got on the board midway through the first period when Cooper Richard buried a rebounded past Skowhegan/Lawrence’s Curtis Martin. Austin Roy assisted on the goal.

St. Dom’s would notch two more goals in the first period, the first of which came with 47.6 remaining. Austin Roy carried the puck through the neutral zone and skated around the defenseman. Roy sniped a shot over the glove of Martin knocking the goalie’s water bottle to the ice.

Just 17.3 seconds later, Richard scored his second goal of the game. The puck slid across the crease, and Richard buried the shot. Isaac Lapointe and Austin Roy had assists on the play.

The second period would bring much of the same for St. Dom’s as they rattled off three more goals on 15 shots.

“I went in the locker room and explained to them that we were winning but were really losing 5-0,” said St. Dom’s head coach Bob Parker. “We’re expected to do better than what was happening. That’s our fifth game in a row that we have a really slow first period, and we have to get out of that somehow.”

Martin made the first save of the sequence but found himself out of position after a Nate Richard shot that Noah Toussaint potted for the Saint’s fourth goal. The tally came 4:51 into the period.

Austin Roy scored his second goal and fourth point of the game after scoring on a shot in the slot. Roy received a tape-to-tape pass from Sam Blaisdell and ripped a shot to the low-glove side.

“My usual move is to just try and get the goalie moving and pick a corner,” said Roy. “I think (Martin) was really squaring up to us really well when we were taking it wide and stuff.”

The Bandits had a few opportunities in the period, but the best came from the stick of senior defenseman Samuel Haver as he fired a shot at St. Dom’s goaltender Kyle Welsh. Welsh got a good piece of the shot, but the puck fluttered just past the far post.

Reese Farrell added the final goal of the period for the Saints on a backhanded shot in close. He snuck the puck between Martin’s leg pad and the post to put his team up 6-0.

The Bandits went to Hunter Raye on their bench to relieve Martin after the second intermission. Martin had 21 saves on 27 tough shots.

“It was 6-0 at that point,” said Skowhegan/Lawrence’s head coach Ted Fabian. “Hunter hasn’t had a chance yet, and I thought maybe we could spark something throwing a new guy in there.”

Raye stood tall for the first seven minutes of the third period, but Gavin Bates was able to get one past him on the power play. Bates took a pass from Toussaint and netted the goal.

Toussaint and Nate Richard would both add a goal of their own in the final five minutes to bring the score to 10-0.

Kyle Welsh had eight saves in goal for the Saints. Hunter Raye registered 15 saves on 19 shots in the final period.
