CANAAN, Maine — A Clinton teenager died early Christmas morning when he lost control of the pickup truck he was driving, according to Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster.

Lawrence Richardson, 19, was thrown from the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado he was operating when the vehicle rolled over at a curve on Hinckley Road, also known as Route 23, about a mile from the intersection with Route 2, he said Friday night.

The crash was reported about 4:10 a.m., the sheriff said

Richardson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lancaster said. The teenager was the only person in the truck, he said.

Deputies are investigating to determine if black ice and speed were factors in the accident.

Canaan Fire and Rescue responded to the 911 call, the sheriff said.
