PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Nick Lenhard scored six of his 14 points in overtime on Thursday, leading the University of Maine-Presque Isle to a 74-68 men’s basketball victory over Villa Maria College of Buffalo, New York.

Villa Maria’s Darius Huggins had made two free throws with 37 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Chase Vicaire headed a list of five double-figure scorers for the Owls (5-7) with 19 points. Maurice Harris posted 16 points and nine rebounds, while Brandon McGill and Quinton Harris provided 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Huggins (8 rebounds) and Dustin Stokes paced a balanced effort for Villa Maria (5-15) with 15 points each. Donte Campbell and DeJuan Owens tossed in 14 points apiece.

Villanova 95, Xavier 64

Led by guard Ryan Arcidiacono’s 27 points and a stellar effort from beyond the arc, No. 16 Villanova easily won its Big East conference opener over previously undefeated, No. 6 Xavier 95-64 in Villanova, Pennsylvania.

Villanova controlled the game from the start. A 3-pointer by Arcidiacono four minutes into the game started a barrage of triples by Villanova (11-2, 1-0 Big East), which hit six in a six-minute span to open up a 31-15 lead. The Wildcats hit eight three-pointers in a first half that ended with Villanova holding a 48-30 lead.

Junior wing Josh Hart took over from there, scoring Villanova’s first 13 points of the second half to push the lead to 27 points, and Xavier (12-1, 0-1) was never able to make a serious run over the closing 20 minutes.

Villanova made 13 of its 25 shots from beyond the 3-point line.

Women’s Basketball

Brandeis 60, Husson 52

At Waltham, Massachusetts, the Judges snapped Husson’s five-game winning streak as they never trailed.

Brandeis (5-4) built a 51-35 lead after three quarters and held off a Husson rally in the fourth period. Sydney Sodine had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Judges and Heather Cain and Frankie Pinto came off the bench to score 11 points apiece.

Paris Hodges had eight points and four assists and Maria Jackson contributed six points and a game-high 12 rebounds along with three assists.

Victoria McIntyre had a game-high 17 points and a team-best six rebounds for 5-2 Husson University of Bangor. Kenzie Worcester had 12 points and five rebounds and Chandler Guerrette chipped in with eight points.

Brandeis outrebounded Husson 47-32.

Villa Maria 86, UMPI 57

At Presque Isle, Jayvonna Kincannon scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Magan Campbell had 26 points and five steals to lead Villa Maria of Buffalo, New York, past the University of Maine-Presque Isle.

Shaquana Owens contributed 20 points and nine rebounds and Naomi Walker chipped in eight points and nine rebounds.

Amanda Hotham had 12 points and six rebounds for 0-10 UMPI and Katie Patenaude scored 11. Brianna Losee had nine points and Megan Jellison collected seven points and seven rebounds.
