PORTLAND, Maine — The water search for a missing 23-year-old Saco man was suspended late Wednesday, Cmdr. Gary Rogers of the Portland Police Department said in a news release.

Rogers said that police divers from the Portland and South Portland police departments and the Maine State Police have searched the harbor in the area where James E. Dyer was last seen without developing any new information.

“At this time, we are suspending the water search until new leads are developed,” he said.

Dyer was last seen at 3 a.m. Friday leaving the Pearl Night Club in the Old Port neighborhood in Portland and has not made contact with his family, according to police. Criminal investigators from the Saco Police Department took over the case on Monday.

Saco police Sgt. Chris Hardiman said Sunday morning that police have received tips on alleged sightings of Dyer from Wells to Auburn, Portland television station WGME, CBS 13, reported at that time.

CBS 13 said that Amy Dyer, James E. Dyer’s mother, said that her son was walking toward a car with friends and when they turned around, her son was not there. She also said it was not like her son to not be in contact with family and that he never missed work.

Dyer is described as white, 5 foot-9, 150 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a red flannel shirt, tan khaki pants and L.L .Bean boots.

Rogers said that Portland police are assisting Saco police, and the case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information should call the Saco Police Department at 284-4535 or the Portland Police Department at 874-8575.
