HERMON, Maine — A Carmel woman has admitted to a civil violation in connection with a motor vehicle crash that left another woman dead, according to officials.
Rebecca Chasse admitted Thursday to a civil charge of a motor vehicle violation resulting in death in a June 2014 crash on Route 2 that claimed the life of Karen Worcester of Carmel, according to the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office.
Marianne Lynch, assistant district attorney, said Friday that Chasse is facing a fine and the loss of her driver’s license in the case. She is not facing any jail time because of the case being a civil matter, Lynch said.
“In this case it was failure to maintain control of her vehicle and failure to maintain a lane,” Lynch said.
Chasse and her daughter, Rachelle Welch of Carmel, apparently were arguing, which distracted Chasse and caused her to crash head-on into Worcester’s vehicle.
Worcester died at the scene, and Chasse and Welch were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Worcester had worked as a grant supervisor in corporate accounts for Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems. She had been in the finance department since 2005.
Chasse is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date.
