SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A New York man with a lengthy criminal record has been charged with unlawful trafficking in crack cocaine and trafficking in heroin, according to local police.

Jermaine Faulk, 44, of Yonkers, New York, was arrested Friday after South Portland police found a “substantial amount” of crack cocaine, heroin, cash and other items indicative of drug trafficking in his hotel room near the Maine Mall, according to a news release issued late Friday.

Faulk has a lengthy criminal history that includes convictions on drug, weapons, robbery and resisting arrest charges, the release said.

He remained Saturday at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland unable to post $25,000 cash bail.

Faulk is expected to appear Monday before a judge at the Cumberland County Courthouse.

The joint investigation that led to Faulk’s arrest was conducted by members of the South Portland Police Department, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force, the release said. The Southern Maine Regional SWAT Team assisted other agencies.

In another drug case, authorities arrested a New York man after police found cocaine, marijuana and money at a Portsmouth, New Hampshire hotel on Friday.

Everton Sterling, 31, of Bronx, New York. was arrested without incident as part of a drug investigation by Portsmouth and Somersworth police and DEA agents. A search of Sterling and his hotel room led to the discovery of cocaine with a street value of $16,000, marijuana and $2,500 in cash. Everton faces charges of sale of a controlled drug, possession of drugs with intent to distribute and two counts of marijuana possession.

Everton is being held on $75,000 bail at the Rockingham County Jail in Brentwood, New Hampshire, and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
