JAY, Maine — A small fire at the Verso Paper mill was quickly contained by firefighters on Monday, officials said.
Jay Deputy Fire Chief Corey Leclerc said crews dealt with the blaze about 12:30 p.m., and by the time Jay firefighters arrived, the fire inside a gear box had been contained by Verso’s fire brigade.
Leclerc said no injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the gear box. Firefighters from Jay, Lewiston, Livermore, Livermore Falls and Farmington battled the blaze.
A mechanical issue was the likely cause, officials said.
