ROCKLAND, Maine — Two veteran public safety officers were honored Monday night for 20 years of service apiece.
Rockland Fire Chief Adam Miceli and Deputy Police Chief Christopher Young each received certificates to mark the anniversary.
Miceli was hired in December 1995. He was promoted to assistant chief in May 2001 and named acting chief in April 2014 when Chief Charles Jordan Jr. retired.
City Councilor William Clayton said Miceli should receive a special plaque for having been acting chief for two years while also performing his duties as assistant chief. The position has not been filled as a budget-saving measure.
Clayton pointed out that when he and his family hear sirens from fire engines, they know that someone is in need of help and they will be receiving it from emergency crews.
“We couldn’t have a better leader for the department,” Councilor William Jillson said.
Young was hired in January 1996. He was promoted to detective in 2001 and detective sergeant in 2008. He was named deputy chief in May 2015.
He previously worked as a deputy for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and as a reserve officer for Rockport.
Councilor Larry Pritchett said he hears many positive comments about Rockland and the police department and that Young is praised by those people.
