DEER ISLE, Maine — A local man who was arrested last month on drug trafficking charges was arrested again Wednesday after police found him in possession of a “sizeable amount of heroin and cash,” according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Officers with the agency received information earlier this week that Kenneth W. Gray, 27, had received a shipment of heroin and was planning to sell it in the Deer Isle-Stonington area, MDEA indicated Thursday in a prepared statement.

On Wednesday afternoon, police located a vehicle Gray was riding in and stopped it in Deer Isle. Officers searched Gray, who was on bail stemming from his drug arrest in December, and found three “fingers” of heroin with a total weight of slightly more than 30 grams, which is estimated to have a street value of approximately $10,000. Police also found and seized more than $4,000 cash in suspected drug sales proceeds, according to MDEA.

Gray was arrested on a charge of aggravated drug trafficking due to the amount of drugs seized and a charge of violating conditions of release. He is being held without bail at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth and is expected to appear in Hancock County Unified Criminal Court on Friday, Jan. 15.

MDEA agents were assisted in the matter by members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the state office of Probation and Parole. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected, MDEA indicated.
