WINTERPORT, Maine — An 18-year-old from Winterport accused of hitting a person with a stick during an argument has been charged with aggravated assault.

Luke Wessely was at a North Main Street residence on the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 12, when an argument erupted between family members and several guests who were there, according to a press release issued Friday by Sheriff Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

According to police, during the disagreement Wessely hit a guest with a large wooden stick. The guest was not seriously injured, Trafton wrote.

Because the assault included the use of a weapon, the teen was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was taken to the Waldo County Correctional Center in Belfast and later released on unsecured bail.
