LYNDONVILLE, Vermont — The Maine Maritime Mariners used a strong start to post a 63-44 women’s basketball victory over Lyndon State in North Atlantic Conference action Friday night.

The Mariners of Castine outscored Lyndon 24-9 in the first quarter and improved to 5-6 overall in 2-3 in the NAC.

Megan McLean and Alayne Felix each scored 14 points to lead MMA. McLean also had five assists and four rebounds while Felix had five rebounds. Mackenzie Vosburgh chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds and Kristi Willey contributed six points and seven rebounds.

Mikayla Hodge paced Lyndon (3-8, 2-4) with 13 points and 13 rebounds and Allison Brown added 12 points.

Husson 66, Johnson St. 47

At Johnson, Vermont, the Husson University Eagles of Bangor used a balanced scoring attack to roll by Johnson State and remain unbeaten in the North Atlantic Conference.

Kenzie Worcester paced Husson (9-3, 7-0) with 17 points, Victoria McIntyre added 13, Chandler Guerrette put in eight and Rebecca Young and Denae Johnson had seven each. Guerrette also grabbed 13 rebounds and McIntyre had 11 to help Husson gain a 46-44 team edge.

The teams were tied at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter, but the Eagles then outscored Johnson State 33-21 over the next two quarters en route to the win.

Domonique Carter-Stanley scored 14 points to lead Johnson State (6-8, 3-4) while Ashely Goddard and Amanda Bednarick each added 13.

Bates 52, Hamilton 41

At Lewiston, Bates jumped out to a 21-6 lead after one quarter and a 32-12 halftime edge en route to the NESCAC victory over visiting Hamilton.

Nina Davenport scored a game-high 17 points for Bates (5-9, 1-2 NESCAC), while Allie Coppola added 13 points and 10 rebounds, her seventh double-double this season. Bernadette Connors totaled eight points and eight rebounds with team highs of four assists and two steals.

Carly Gruenberg had team highs of 12 points and four assists with six rebounds for Hamilton (5-9, 1-2).

Men’s Basketball

Husson 108, Johnson St. 72

At Johnson, Vermont, Trevon Butler scored a team-high 31 points to lead the Eagles to the win over Johnson State College in NAC action.

Husson (9-3, 7-0 NAC) wins its seventh straight NAC game, while Johnson drops to 2-11 overall and 2-5 in the NAC.

For the Badgers, Benjamin Holl recorded 22 points, two boards and an assist.

Husson saw four players enter double digit scoring and went 80 percent from the foul line.

Lyndon State 68, MMA 59

At Lyndonville, Vermont, Xavier Colbert’s double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, led the Hornets to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Mariners.

Eric Vargas (5 assists) and Gabriel Torres scored 11 points each and Kevin Love added 10 for Lyndon State.

Dylan Price (8 rebounds) and Tyler Thayer (4 assists) each tallied 14 points for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine, Brendan Newcomb scored 12 points and Tyler Gilson added eight points and seven rebounds.

Bates 67, Hamilton 62

At Clinton, New York, the Bates Bobcats spread the wealth on offense to record the iwn.

The road victory for Bates (9-6, 2-1 NESCAC) wasn’t easy as the Continentals (7-7, 0-3 NESCAC) gave their all for the whole game.

Three players scored in double figures for Bates (9-6, 2-1 NESCAC). Mike Boornazian and Malcolm Delpeche led the way with 12 points each. Marcus Delpeche added 10 points of his own while hauling down seven rebounds, tied with Boornazian for the team-high.

Shawn Strickland tallied eight points with a game-high seven assists.
