Stargazers will get to see a special planetary spectacle starting this week as five planets will align and will be visible in the night sky.

The five planets — Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter — will line up along the southern horizon along a diagonal line. According to EarthSky.org, this will be the first time since 2005 the five planets will appear at the same time.

The celestial phenomenon will be visible starting Jan. 20 until Feb. 20.

Mercury will be closest to the horizon, so an open area away from city lights will make it easiest to see the planet. Mars will have its distinctive red glow, making it easier to spot.

With a month of nighttime viewing, there are plenty of opportunities to see five of the solar system’s planets aligned. To make sure you pick a clear night to stargaze, check the National Weather Service’s sky cover forecast.
