FREEPORT, Maine — A Portland man charged with stealing a vehicle in Portland, then robbing the Key Bank branch on Main Street in Freeport last July pleaded guilty in federal court.

Jimmy Odong, 25, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Wednesday to the charge of bank robbery, according to a release from U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II. Odong faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Odong stole a vehicle and cell phone from a woman in Portland at about 2:30 p.m. July 17, then drove to Key Bank in Freeport, according to Delahanty. He entered the bank wearing a wig and sunglasses, pointed what appeared to be a gun at tellers and demanded cash.

According to the release, Odong stole about $11,700, then fled the scene in the stolen vehicle. Police later recovered it, and a forensic exam revealed Odong’s partial palm print on the outside of the vehicle.

Odong was arrested July 23, when police found him with about $1,180 in cash and the stolen cell phone.

He will be sentenced following completion of a presentence investigation report from the U.S. Probation Office.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI; Freeport, Portland, Brunswick, South Portland, Lewiston and Biddeford police departments; the Maine State Police; the Southern Maine Gang Task Force; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations.
