BANGOR, Maine — Husson University’s Trevon Butler nailed a 3-pointer with 1:48 left in overtime to give the Eagles a four-point lead and they held off the Colby College Mules for a 92-89 men’s basketball victory Tuesday night at Newman Gym.
Colby’s Patrick Stewart sent the game into overtime when he hit a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left to tie it at 80-80. Husson missed its final two attempts in regulation.
Butler poured in 33 points to lead Husson (12-4). Raheem Anderson chipped in with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists while Zach Curran and Justin Martin each added 10 points. Martin also had nine rebounds.
Stewart scored 21 points to lead Colby of Waterville (12-6) and he also had five rebounds. Sam Willson added 18 points, Chris Hudnut put in 16 and Ryan Jann netted 15. Luke Westman recorded eight points and nine rebounds.
Women’s Basketball
UMM 85, Unity 28
At Machias, the UMaine-Machias Clippers jumped out to a 28-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and went on to beat the Rams.
Alicen Brooks paced the Clippers (3-11) with 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Ami Carver chipped in with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Shannon Garland added 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. Kali Alley recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds and Angleana Lyons had 12 points, four assists and four steals.
Jacklyn Collins paced Unity (0-9) with 12 points and eight rebounds. Jeana Coppa had 11 rebounds.
Bowdoin 94, Husson 49
At Brunswick, Bowdoin surged to a 48-25 lead at halftime and then outscored the Eagles of Bangor 27-9 in the third quarter to cruise to the victory.
Shannon Brady paced the Polar Bears (14-5) with 16 points and eight rebounds. Lauren Petit chipped in with 15 points and Ally Silfen added 13. Bowdoin outrebounded Husson 52-31.
Kenzie Worcester scored 13 points and had six rebounds to lead Husson. Victoria McIntyre chipped in with eight points.
MMA 72, UMFK 60
At Castine, Maine Maritime Academy outscored UMaine-Fort Kent 12-1 in the final three minutes of the game and went on to claim a non-conference victory at Smith Gym.
Kristi Willey and Alayne Felix led the Mariners with 16 points each. Willey added a team-high eight rebounds while Felix pulled down six rebounds, dished out three assists and tallied two steals. Amy Winchester added 14 points, four assists and three rebounds and Megan McLean contributed 12 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Ericka Saucier led the Bengals with a double-double of 15 rebounds and 14 points. Samantha Carapellucci added a double-double of her own with 13 points, 12 rebounds and two assists. Romanalyn Inocencio added 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and five steals while Danielle Carrillo contributed 10 points.
Colby 66, UMF 59
At Waterville, Carylanne Wolfington scored 17 points and Katie McCrum was perfect from the field and the foul line to help the Colby hold off the University of Maine at Farmington at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Wolfington, who surpassed 1,000 career points this past weekend, was 6-for-9 from the field for Colby (11-7) and 4-for-7 from 3-point range. McCrum was 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line for 10 points.
Desi Smith also had 10 points and had a team-high seven rebounds. Mia Diplock added seven points and three assists, while Emily Davis had seven points.
Meghan Smith paced the Beavers (9-7) with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and 5-for-5 from the foul line. She had a game-high 14 rebounds and dished three rebounds.
Kelly Pomerleau and Kennadi Grover both had 10 points for UMF. Elizabeth Ferry added six points and four rebounds.
