BANGOR, Maine — A Lincoln man will spend a year and a half behind bars on a firearms charge, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Bruce Smith, 60, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release on a charge of possessing a weapon while using a controlled substance. Smith pled guilty to the charge in August 2015.
According to court documents, Smith had been in possession of seven firearms between January and April 2014 while using bath salts.
Two of the guns were seized during a March 2014 traffic stop in Lincoln, and Smith was subsequently arrested.
Two more weapons that were traced back to Smith were seized in Bradford, also in March 2014, and he was in possession of three more in April while being questioned by federal agents.
Two of the firearms had been pawned for bath salts in 2014.
According to BDN archives, Smith also has a charge of unlawful trafficking of bath salts from 2011 in his record.
The case was investigated by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency; the U.S. Postal Inspection Service; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the Lincoln Police Department.
