Monday night, a minivan pulled up in front of the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston and dropped off a playful female yellow lab mix. Then, the driver took off as the dog tried to give chase.
Since then, humane society volunteers and kind-hearted Lewiston residents have been searching for the dog.
Thursday morning, they found the dog’s body, hit by a car near a bridge on-ramp.
The video below is grainy, but if you recognize the person who abandoned this dog rather than formally turning her in to the shelter, the humane society asks that you please contact the Lewiston Police Department.
The question is, why didn’t they just turn her in to the shelter? Why drop off her on a cold winter night? Here’s the video, but a warning: The confused dog chasing after the minivan is the saddest thing you’ll see all week.
