ROCKLAND, Maine — A Massachusetts man was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for his role in smuggling Suboxone into the Maine State Prison shortly after he had been released from the facility.

Manny Sylvia, 32, was sentenced by Justice Daniel Billings in Knox County Unified Court for aggravated trafficking in drugs.

Sylvia had served four years at the prison following his 2011 conviction for bringing about $30,000 worth of drugs into Knox County. He and a co-defendant were arrested in April 2011 at a Thomaston hotel.

In the most recent case, Assistant Attorney General Katie Sibley told the judge that Sylvia had sent the Suboxone from Massachusetts to a woman in Maine. That woman gave the drugs to another woman, who was caught at the prison with the Suboxone.

Investigators also had a taped conversation of Sylvia, who was on probation, telling the woman never to mention his name in connection with the Suboxone or he would be going back to prison.

Justice Billings warned Sylvia that he faces spending much of the remaining amount of his life in prison if he is caught again dealing drugs after he gets out of prison.
