NEWPORT, Maine — A local man escaped injury Monday night when his sport-utility vehicle plunged through the ice on Sebasticook Lake, according to police.
Officers were advised that a vehicle owned by Eric Lane had gone through the ice approximately 300 feet from shore, according to Newport police Chief Leonard Macdaid.
Macdaid said police were called at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and Lane told police “he was goofing off on the ice when his vehicle broke through the ice” around 9 p.m. Monday, the chief said in an email.
Lane was not injured and the vehicle was not damaged, according to Macdaid. No charges were filed.
The Maine Warden Service assisted Newport police.
