BDN to stream Thursday’s Hampden-Brewer basketball games

Thanks to a collaborative effort between BDN Maine and SportsNet Maine, Thursday’s key Class A basketball games between Brewer and Hampden Academy will be streamed live on the Bangor Daily News website.

Jim Churchill and Aaron Jackson will have the call as SportsNet Maine will broadcast the Brewer-Hampden girls game at 6 p.m., followed by the Broncos-Witches boys game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for Thursday’s games sold out in the span of two hours on Jan. 27.

Sixteen Husson football players receive academic honors

Sixteen Husson University football student-athletes have been named to the 2015 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference All-Academic Team.

The honorees who qualified for the team must have reached sophomore academic standing, have participated a minimum two years with the team and achieved a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30.

Receiving the honors are: Matt Archer, Parker Asselin, Seth Batty, Lucas Bickford, Chris Czachor, Cody Del Conte, Tom Eppich, Seth Freudenberger, Jordan Hersom, Jeremiah Jones, Tyler Lyle, A.J. McLaughlin, Dan Moreshead, Luis Rivera, Tyler Shanklin and Ellis Throckmorton.

Calgary’s Wideman draws 20-game suspension

Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman has been suspended 20 games for cross-checking a linesman, the NHL announced Wednesday.

The league said Wideman’s suspension without pay was for “conduct violative of Rule 40 (Physical Abuse of Officials)” during last Wednesday night’s game against the Nashville Predators.

Wideman has said he cross-checked linesman Don Henderson unintentionally in a woozy scramble to get back to the team’s bench at 11:19 of the second period. . Wideman, who had been suspended indefinitely before the All-Star break, met with NHL officials in Toronto on Tuesday at an appeal hearing that lasted 90 minutes.

The 32-year-old has played 11 NHL seasons.

Heat’s Johnson out indefinitely after surgery

Heat guard Tyler Johnson underwent left shoulder surgery on Wednesday in Miami.

The team said in a statement that Johnson will begin rehab immediately, but there is not yet a timeframe for his return. The one-hour procedure was performed by team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick at Doctors Hospital.

In 36 games this season, including five starts, Johnson averaged 8.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He shot 48.8 percent from the field.

Dunleavy rejoins Bulls

The Chicago Bulls recalled forward Mike Dunleavy from Santa Cruz of the NBA Development League on Wednesday.

Dunleavy has not played in a game for the Bulls this season after a low back microdiscectomy procedure on Sept. 25.

Last Saturday, Dunleavy scrimmaged with the Bulls before the team sent him to Santa Cruz as part of his rehab. Coach Fred Hoiberg hopes Dunleavy can return to the court for the Bulls during their seven-game road trip that is underway.

The 35-year-old veteran is in his 14th season with the Bulls.
